The Boys viewing numbers revealed

The big news was that Amazon Prime viewership will now be tracked by Nielsen.

The by-product of that announcement was that viewing statistics for the Amazon Prime series The Boys have been released and they are impressive.

For the first 10 days, 8 million viewers watched the series with 6 million watching the first episode.

In the key demographic, 39% of the audience aged between 35 and 49.

Reminiscent of The Watchmen to a degree, The Boys follows a group of vigilantes determined to bring down a Justice League, Avengers-like group of corrupt corporate superheroes. It is based on the graphic novel by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

The series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso and Chace Crawford.

Calling the inclusion of Amazon as a “significant milestone for Nielsen” Brian Fuhrer, the senior vice-president product leadership at Nielsen, also said: “We think the addition of Amazon Prime Video will allow rights owners an added ability to understand both the size, as well as the composition, of their streaming audiences relative to other platforms or programs. Beyond that, making this enhancement re-affirms our commitment to continuous improvement and to being the one media truth of an increasingly-fragmented video landscape.”

It should be noted that the numbers only consist of American viewership.
