Strange Angel gets the axe

Jack Parsons won’t be blasting off any more.

CBS All Access has decided to pull the plug on the series after two seasons.

In the series Jack Raynor starred as Jack Parsons “a brilliant and ambitious blue-collar worker of 1930s Los Angeles, who started as a janitor at a chemical factory but had fantastical dreams that led him to birth the unknown discipline of American rocketry. Along the way, he Parsons into a mysterious world that included sex magick rituals at night, ultimately becoming a disciple of occultist Aleister Crowley. Parsons used Crowley’s teachings of self-actualization to support his unimaginable and unprecedented endeavor to the stars”.

“The series brought new meaning to the idea that the truth is stranger than fiction and we are incredibly thankful to the creative team of Mark Heyman, David DiGilio, Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker for their vision, as well as the fantastic cast for bringing the bizarre story of Jack Parsons to life,” said Julie McNamara, executive vice president of original content at CBS All Access in a statement.

Created by Mark Heyman and based on the book “Strange Angel: The Otherworldly Life of Rocket Scientist John Whiteside Parsons” by George Pendle, “Strange Angel” was produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Scott Free Productions. Heyman, David DiGilio, Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker served as executive producers.

The cast included Reynor, Bella Heathcote, Rupert Friend, Peter Mark Kendall, Michael Gaston, Greg Wise, Rade Šerbedžija, Zack Pearlman and Keye Chen.
